Reardon Thrilled to be part of Country Tour

Updated: October 5, 2018

Former Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs player Steve Reardon is part of the Country Under-16’s Coaching staff in 2018 and the Temora Dragons product is excited about the opportunity to develop some of the best junior players in Country NSW.

“It’s something different for me,” Reardon said.

“I just love being around it; you miss the team environment and making new friends and I suppose if you can show a kid something and he uses it on the field you feel better about yourself too.

“I’m here with a lot of good blokes from the bush and hopefully they can learn a few things from us.”

The team trained at Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Centre ahead of their clash with the Gold Coast Titans on Saturday and Reardon says he has been impressed by the Under-16’s skill level and believes the tour will be an experience they won’t forget.

“I have been blown away by how they have stepped up and the professionalism of kids from the bush.

“It’s really good for the kids, it’s an experience they probably weren’t thinking about when they were 14 and 15 year’s old.

“The best thing about it is they’ve all come together and they’re all mates now.”

After playing for the Bulldogs for 14 years (1990-2003), Reardon believes junior rugby league coaches are better taught now than they were in the 90’s, which in turn benefits the players coming through the pathway.

“Training techniques are very different from when I was playing; I suppose coaches now all around the state and Australia are getting better coached themselves, so kids are learning more.”

The Country Under-16’s v Gold Coast Titans match will be played on Saturday, 6th October at Ned Byrne Field, Cudgen and will kick-off at 2:00pm; the Country Under-18’s v Gold Coast Titans will kick-off at 3:30pm.
