To say there’s a “struck match” between the Muswellbrook Ramettes and Singleton Greyhounds would be an understatement.

In the final of the inaugural Hunter Valley Group 21 CRL Women’s 9s competition, the Greyhounds captured the title with a try in the dying minutes, breaking the hearts of the Ramettes’ girls.

And, in a mirror-image of that result, Muswellbrook came from behind to secure victory, 14-12, over Singleton at Pirtek Park on Friday night, courtesy of a Sophie Laing four-pointer with less than 120 seconds on the clock.

The thrilling triumph capped off a big season for the Hayden Fox-coached Ramettes, who snared the league tag and CRL 9s crowns in 2017.

The Phoebe Desmond-led Greyhounds were determined to defend their premiership on home turf – and hit the front early, via perennial tryscorer Tyler Kersley.
