St Johns Oval, Newcastle will host a festival of Women’s Rugby League this weekend, with the inaugural Semi-Finals of the CRL Central Hunter Combined Women’s Competition taking place alongside CRL Newcastle taking on Mounties in Round 10 of the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership.

Teams from the Central Coast, Newcastle, Maitland and Group 21 will compete across four age divisions on the day, with Under-14, Under-16, Under-18 and Open-Age Semi-Finals kicking-off from 10:00am.

After featuring in the NSW Blues historic win in the inaugural Women’s State of Origin; Blues stars Isabelle Kelly, Holli Wheeler, Hannah Southwell and Rebecca Young will take the field for CRL Newcastle along with Mounties’ Simaima Taufa in the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership to conclude the day.

CRL Female Participation Officer and injured CRL Newcastle player Kylie Hilder believes the day will be a great celebration of the success of the competitions inaugural season.

“We’ve been really pleased with how the competition has been embraced in its inaugural season,” said Hilder.

“The competition has provided an opportunity for over 500 female players to begin or continue their association with Rugby League along with providing a pathway into the CRL Newcastle side competing in the NSW Women’s Premiership.

“The competition itself is quite unique as it features multiple teams from surrounding groups competing in one competition and it’s been really pleasing to see everyone embrace this concept.

“Having five victorious Women’s NSW Blues players taking the field is a great addition to the day and I strongly encourage people to come along and see some of the best current and up and coming players in our game on display.”
