Lakes United Juniors Support Fiji

Henry Fisher hails from the village of Kasavu on Fijian island of Savusavu and coaches Lakes United U/17-1s in the Hunter Valley Combined Competition.

In the most recent cyclone to devastate the area, the school and hospital in his village, were decimated. With limited funds, recovery is slow.

Still with strong family links in Kasavu, Henry has been back twice already this year, sadly, to attend the funeral of his brother and nephew.

Identifying the need for the local children to have books in their school library as a worthwhile project to undertake, he found a more than willing partner in Lakes United Juniors Secretary Patricia Dybell, a teacher herself, to bring this dream to reality.

The result of their endeavours is Henrys Day. On the 20th July, Cahill Oval in Belmont will host all Lakes United teams fixtures (as per schedule below). The goal is 800 books.

If every participant on the 20th July was to bring a book – either used or new, along with a gold coin donation, that would be at least 200 books and a portion of the shipping costs accounted for.

To reach the 800 mark, the support of the wider community is invited. Should you wish to make a contribution please do not hesitate to contact Patricia via email at patricia.dybell@det.nsw.edu.au

“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counsellors, and the most patient of teachers.”
