The Group 16 Grand Final will take place in Bega this Sunday, with the undefeated Cooma Stallions taking on the Bombala Blue Heelers.

In a competition that has seen the Eden Tigers, Bega Roosters and the Moruya Sharks dominate Premierships over the past 10 years, the clash between Cooma and Bombala has renewed much interest in Group 16 Rugby League and should ensure a bumper crowd this weekend.

The Stallions will be searching for their first premiership in 23 years, whilst the Blue Heelers will also be looking to end an unenviable drought of 26 years without a first-grade title.

Bombala will also feature in the Ladies League Tag Grand Final when they take on the Moruya Sharks; with the Bega Roosters taking on Candelo-Bemboka in Reserve Grade and the U18’s Grand Final featuring the Batemans Bay Tigers and Merimbula Pambula.

The Stallions have defeated the Blue Heelers in all three of their matches this season, with the biggest margin between the two sides being only eight points.

This weekend will also be the first Grand Final between Cooma and Bombala in 33 years.

Bombala’s Joe Bobbin was declared the Coach of the Year at the recent Group 16 annual awards, while Cooma boasts leading point-scorer Zac Smith and leading try-scorer Tim Knight.

On the back of their success, the Stallions are also in the hunt for the coveted Clayton’s Cup, that was won by the Moruya Sharks last year.

Gates open 9:30am.
