CRL Under-14 and 15 Country Championships to kick-off this weekend

Updated: June 13, 2017

The best young rugby league players from across Regional New South Wales will come together this weekend in Forster-Tuncurry and Wollongong for the Northern and Southern Zone CRL under-14 and 15 Country Championships.

Over 800 players will take the field across the weekend with players representing their respective groups at Forster’s Harry Elliott Oval and Wollongong’s Collegians Sports Centre.

The winning sides will take part in the under-14 and 15 Country Championship Finals, which will be played at Cessnock Sportsground on Saturday, 1st July.

Country Rugby League CEO Terry Quinn believes the Championships are a great way to see the future of the game on display.

“The under-14 and 15 Country Championships provide over 800 players with their first taste of representative football and it’s wonderful to see the next generation of rugby league talent from regional New South Wales taking the field together,” said Quinn.

“The Country Championships are, for many players, their first opportunity to play against opponents from outside their local groups and are a great stepping stone to what are hopefully long and fruitful careers in the game.”

All players participating in this weekend’s championships will be required to attend NRL Welfare and Education workshops covering social responsibility, social media, cyber bullying and respect as part of the NRL Better Choices Program.

Over 60 games will be played across the weekend with games kicking off at 9am at both venues on Saturday and Sunday.
